If you’re a fan of peanut butter, here’s a chewy treat for you to try! These Peanut Butter-Honey Cereal Bars are full of peanut butter flavor and sweetened with brown sugar and honey! These yummy cereal bars have a delicious crunchiness too, thanks to the Cheerios™ and Rice Krispies® cereals used in this recipe.
The caramel-like peanut butter/honey/brown sugar mixture is cooked on the stovetop and coats the cereal mixture. After it sets for a bit, it’s ready to cut into bars—no baking involved! It’s an easy treat and makes a great snack any time of day. It would even make a great after-school snack!
Peanut Butter-Honey Cereal Bars
PEANUT BUTTER-HONEY CEREAL BARS by NancyC
Makes a 9×13″ pan
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup honey
2 Tablespoons all-purpose unbleached flour
2 cups creamy peanut butter
3 cups toasted oat cereal (like Cheerios™)
3 cups crisp rice cereal (like Rice Krispies®)
Line a 9 x 13″ pan with parchment paper; set aside.
In large saucepan, add the brown sugar, honey, and flour over medium heat until sugar and flour are dissolved and mixture just starts to boil. Remove from heat and stir in the peanut butter, mixing everything together well. Then stir in the two cereals, making sure all the cereal is coated with the peanut butter mixture.
Quickly spread mixture into your prepared 9 x 13″ pan, pressing it down slightly and evenly into the pan. Let cool about 15 minutes, then lift out of pan with the parchment paper edges and cut into bars. Serve or let cool completely; store at room temperature, layering and wrapping with wax paper or parchment paper for 3 to 4 days.
NOTE: To keep the bars fresh longer, you can refrigerate them (wrapped or in a ziploc bag) and then let them warm to room temperature before serving (they’ll be too hard to bite into taken right from the refrigerator).

This looks like a kid (of all ages) pleaser! The only thing I’d change might be a little drizzle of dark chocolate!

I wonder how this recipe would turn out if you substitute maple syrup in place of the honey? DH has sensitivities to honey. Thanks for sharing the recipe. 😉

Hi Cathy! You could try maple syrup—sounds like a good idea! You could also use light Karo syrup, but maple syrup would be a healthier option!
