Debt-Free Living

Debt-free living ties in with my goal for a simplified, less-cluttered, more stress-free life. Did you realize that being in debt and having lots of bills is a big cause of stress? I want to be wiser about spending and saving, so I’m taking Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University class, which teaches you how to get out of debt, stay out of debt, and save more. The teaching is based on Biblical principles for handling money and has helped thousands of people pay off large amounts of debt in a short amount of time.

I’m just now starting the class as part of a small group at my church, so I’m not an expert on debt-free living yet! 🙂  However, I did get a chance to hear Dave Ramsey speak in person and he shared five life/financial tips that can be helpful to anyone—each tip has a Scripture to back it up:

  1. Live on a budget (Luke 14:28)
  2. Get out of debt (Proverbs 22:7)
  3. Foster high-quality relationships (I Corinthians 15:33)
  4. Save money (Proverbs 21:20)
  5. Be outrageously generous (2 Corinthians 9:7)
