A Day At a Time

In The Everyday Life Bible, Joyce Meyer adds valuable insights into the Scriptures throughout the different books and chapters. Something I read a few days ago was really encouraging to me–I hope you will find it encouraging too. This particular quote is from some of her notes in the book of Exodus, where the Israelites are journeying through the wilderness (page 113).

She writes, “God said the Israelites could gather a day’s portion every day so that He might prove them, whether they would walk in His law or not. Giving them what they needed as they needed it was His way of teaching them to trust Him and testing them to see if they would obey His commandments. If they did try to gather more than enough for one day, what they gathered became rotten…(see Exodus 16:20).

When we worry about tomorrow, we waste today. I believe that we become discouraged and think our lives are worthless because we have never learned to trust God one day at a time.

Trust requires that we have unanswered questions. God’s ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best. Trust God and learn to live one day at a time….”

What a good reminder that was for me–God has always taken care of me and provided for my needs, so I have no reason not to trust in Him, or be anxious about the future. This was a timely reminder for me to take things “a day at a time.”

Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart…. PROVERBS 3:5
