Crazy Love and The Awe Factor of God

I’m reading a book called Crazy Love: OVERWHELMED BY A RELENTLESS GOD by Francis Chan. If you’re seeking to experience God in a deeper way, you need to read this…but be prepared to be challenged! I’m being tremendously challenged by the first few chapters I’ve read so far. In his preface, Chan writes, “This book is written for those who want more Jesus. It is for those who are bored with what American Christianity offers. It is for those who don’t want to plateau, those who would rather die before their convictions do.” His hope is that this book will convince you “that by surrendering yourself totally to God’s purposes, He will bring you the most pleasure in this life and the next.”

The first chapter begins by  talking about the awesomeness of God and how we can see His divine nature through His creation: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” ROMANS 1:20, New International Version, ©2010. And Chan has a great video he refers you to, to illustrate this point so clearly (the image above is from his video). You can watch it by clicking HEREI hope you get a chance to view it–I think you’ll find it pretty amazing!

For Unto Us A Child Is Born

ncUntoUsGift

Christmas is a time of gift-giving, and a time to remember that we already have the greatest Gift anyone could have–the gift of God’s Son, Jesus! I had been thinking about including this Bible verse from Isaiah in my last Christmas post of the year. And then just today I received a Christmas card with the very same Scripture on it…a perfect reminder to post it and wish all of you joy as we celebrate the birth of our Savior–God’s Gift to each one of us!

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

ISAIAH 9:6

Christmas Blessings to you!

That’s What Christmas is All About…

One of my favorite Christmas shows is the Peanuts classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas. I have seen it just about every year since I was a kid, and I never get tired of watching it! What a great reminder of what Christmas is all about as Linus recites a passage from the Gospel of Luke:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

Love The Lord Your God

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

DEUTERONOMY 6:5 (NIV)

A song by Lincoln Brewster, Love The Lord, was playing on the clock radio alarm as I woke up this morning…what a great song to wake up to! If you haven’t heard it before, take the time to listen to it by clicking here. I had to ask myself if I was really living my life that way…am I spending each day loving God with all my heart, soul, and strength? The Message translates Deuteronomy 6:5 this way: “Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love Him with all that’s in you, love Him with all you’ve got!” The Lord has been showing me in different ways that I need to focus on Him more…so this song and scripture were a very timely reminder for me. It’s easy for me to get busy and distracted with unimportant things and lose focus…but I am learning that nothing is more important than focusing on God, keeping Him first in my life, and loving Him with all my heart!

God is at Work Within Us

God can do anything, you know–far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, His Spirit deeply and gently within us.
