Vegan Chocolate Milkshake with Sea Moss Gel

This creamy chocolate milkshake is definitely not your average milkshake—it’s a healthy version made with ingredients that are good for you, including one you may not know about—sea moss gel. Before I become familiar with the sea moss gel from The Transformation Factory (SeaMossTransformation.com), I didn’t know much about this product (I received some complimentary samples from them to try out). But you may have seen or heard about it on the popular show, Shark Tank.

The founder of The Transformation Factory, Alexiou Gibson, began his journey to health when he was 21 years old, after his doctor told him he would not live to see 30. At the time, he weighed over 500 pounds, had multiple chronic conditions, and had respiratory problems that made it difficult to walk long distances. That was back in 2014. Today, Gibson has a vegan lifestyle, works out (even doing dips and squats), and coaches and encourages others. Part of his journey to health included the use of sea moss, and his company blog mentions its benefits:

  • Sea moss has iodine, which is a mineral found in a limited amount of foods.
  • Iodine supports a healthy metabolism and energy levels.
  • This mineral produces thyroid hormones which help our metabolism and many other important functions in our bodies.

They recommend using sea moss in addition to living a healthy lifestyle. The blog also mentions that sea moss can benefit joints and muscles because it contains fish oils and fatty acids that help alleviate swelling of the joints. The sea moss gel has a light, sweet flavor and is made with sea moss, agave, and different fruits—the sea moss gel comes in flavors of pineapple, strawberry banana, strawberry, mango, elderberry, dragon fruit, soursop, and goji berry. You can find more information about this product at the Transformation Factory site.

You don’t need to use a large amount of sea moss gel—the site and product packaging recommend using not more than 2 Tablespoons a day. And if you have thyroid issues or other health issues, or just want some medical advice about if sea moss gel would benefit you, you should check with your doctor before adding this to your diet (see full medical disclaimer at the end of this post). You can mix the sea moss gel into juices or other healthy drinks or stir it into some foods.

Here’s the recipe for the Vegan Chocolate Milkshake—you’ll find this and other recipes you can use sea moss gel in on The Transformation Factory site (I just made a few small changes when I made it—I used a little more banana and I sprinkled shredded coconut on top).

VEGAN CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE from The Transformation Factory
Makes 2 Servings

4 Tablespoons of sea moss gel  (use your favorite flavor)
3 frozen bananas (I used an extra banana in my smoothie!)
1 1/2 cups almond milk
Optional: 2 dates
2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Optional: some shredded coconut, for sprinkling on top

Blend all the ingredients at the same time until you get a smooth consistency. Serve your milkshake and add your preferred toppings such as non-dairy chocolate shavings, cinnamon, or fruit (I sprinkled some shredded coconut on top and added a strawberry on the edge of the glass).
