The REAL SIMPLE Method to Organizing Every Room

RealSimple_Organize

THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED-congrats to Marge K on winning the giveaway copy! I’m reviewing this new book on home organizing from the Editors of REAL SIMPLE, and I also am doing a giveaway for one copy of it! Continue reading below for details on how to enter the giveaway!

I think I was meant to have this book! From the beginning of this year (actually, even before that), organizing and simplifying have been on my mind a lot. It’s this year, though, that I’ve really become serious about it. So this new book, The Real Simple Method to Organizing Every Room and How to Keep it that Way is just what I needed!

I was excited to receive a review copy so I could tell you about it and also put into practice the many helpful tips and ideas I’ve found. This is a very practical handbook that is also very nicely designed, so you can keep it on a coffee table or side table for easy reference! The book starts off with a few pages to help get you motivated and in the organizing mindset: Get Organized, Stay Organized; How to Decide What Should Stay and What Should Go; and Get the Family Involved. Then there are chapters, one for each room in your home, with lots of helpful tips, checklists, storage solutions, and advice from organizing pros including Ashley Murphy, Molly Graves, Andrew Mellen, and Alexandra Wilson. I really like the “Small Space Solutions” ideas in each chapter, which are helpful whether you live in a house that might have some smaller rooms or in an apartment.

The first of the 10 chapters is about The Entryway, followed by The Living Room, The Kitchen, The Dining Room, The Bedroom, The Bathroom, The Home Office, The Laundry Room, The Kids’ Bedroom, and The Outdoor Spaces. The difference between this book and other books about home organization is that it shows you how to create an organizing plan with small, simple habits that can help keep you organized day in and day out. It’s a method that helps you see your home and what’s in it with new eyes—a chair isn’t a place to toss worn clothes or laundry—it’s a place to relax and read or enjoy a cup of coffee. There really is so much helpful information in this book for those of you who want to be more organized and declutter. We’ve all heard how clutter can add stress to our lives, so it really makes sense to make the rooms we live in a pleasure to be in. After all, our homes are our havens, right? A place to unwind, relax, and enjoy time with family and friends.

  1. Ohhh my! Who doesn’t need ideas to get organized! I have had a big empty box in my bedroom for 3 weeks now with the grand idea to put in items I no longer wear or need. The box is still empty as obviously I am not highly motivated to part with “things” I really don’t need! This book sound like it just might motivate me to fill that box!!

  2. I love your recipes, and several have found a place in our regular rotation.

I need to organize and simplify. I have already started on the easy rooms but I am stuck on how to organize and clear clutter from closets and cabinets.

  6. I love reading your posts via email! It is one of my favorites and love all of your recipes! I think my utility room always seems to be cluttered and would love some advice as to how to better organize it. Although that would be number one on my list I could use a little organization in each room of my home and would love some ideas from the book.

  7. There are some things in life that we want, others are needs. I NEED to organize/declutter my home! You spoke of the fact that clutter adds stress to your life. Also that the rooms that we live in should give us pleasure and our home should be our haven. I have that in areas of rooms, but for the most part, not. This book sounds like it would give me the right tools to make that a reality!
