Lemonade and blueberries are such a great summertime combination! I saw this recipe at MarthaStewart.com and happened to have some blueberries on hand, so I thought I’d try it. I did not have the 20 lemons on hand that the recipe asks for, though, so I used ReaLemon lemon juice instead and I thought it tasted great! So it’s probably super-great if you use fresh-squeezed lemon juice. This recipe makes 2 quarts.
INGREDIENTS:
- 3 cups lemon juice (about 20 lemons if you’re using fresh-squeezed)
- 2 cups sugar
- Blueberries, for sprinkling in each glass of lemonade
Pour fresh-squeezed lemon juice through a fine sieve into a large pitcher (or if using ReaLemon lemon juice, pour the juice directly into the pitcher). Add sugar and stir well until dissolved. Stir in 1 quart water, then add ice. Pour into glasses and sprinkle with blueberries (it’s a nice surprise when a blueberry pops into your mouth as you’re drinking your lemonade!). This lemonade tastes especially good when you’re outside on a nice sunny day, stretched out on a lawn chair! 🙂

Sounds yummy!! Do you think frozen blueberries would be ok?

I think they would work fine. Sometimes when blueberries thaw, like when you’re making muffins with them, they make the batter a little blue. So that might happen with the lemonade, but that would be OK–it might be actually be prettier! Let me know if you try it that way!

I will have to try this. I have to say I have never thought of putting a blueberry in my lemonade.
